Risk disclosure

Most people who
trade lose money.

This page is not a formality. Read it properly before you open an account or act on anything you see in an Echelon channel.

DraftThis document has not been through legal review, and the gold blanks are details Echelon still has to supply. It should not be relied on until both are done.

01

Trading carries a high level of risk

Trading foreign exchange, indices, commodities and contracts for difference is high risk. You can lose all of the money you deposit, and you can lose it quickly.

These products are not suitable for everyone. Only trade with money you can afford to lose entirely without it affecting how you live.

02

Leverage works in both directions

Leverage means a small move in the market produces a large move in your account. It magnifies gains and losses equally, and it is the reason a position can be closed out before the idea behind it has had a chance to play out.

A position size that looks small can still lose more than you expect.

03

Nothing here is advice

Echelon publishes analysis and education. It is general information, it is not tailored to your circumstances, and it is not a personal recommendation to buy or sell anything.

Echelon is not a broker, is not a financial adviser, does not hold your money and does not trade your account.

04

What a posted idea is

When one of our traders posts a setup, they are describing a position they are taking or considering, with the reasoning, the invalidation and the targets attached.

It is a record of their thinking at that moment. It is not a signal to be copied blindly, it carries no obligation on them to update it, and it may be wrong. Whether it suits your account, your risk and your circumstances is a judgement only you can make.

05

Past performance proves nothing

Any results, statistics or examples shown on this site describe what has already happened. They are not a promise, a projection or an indication of what will happen next.

No result is guaranteed by anyone at Echelon, and losing periods are a normal part of trading rather than a sign that something has gone wrong.

06

The figures on this site

Where a figure is illustrative rather than a record of closed trades, it is labelled as sample data at the point it appears. Read those labels.

Educational examples are chosen to explain a method, not to represent typical returns.

07

Costs affect your result

Spreads, overnight financing, commissions and currency conversion all reduce what you keep. An idea that looks profitable on the chart can be much less so in your account once costs are taken out.

08

Markets gap and orders slip

Prices can move sharply, and can jump over your stop level without trading at it, particularly around news, at the open after a weekend, and in thin liquidity.

A stop loss reduces risk. It does not cap it. You can lose more than the distance to your stop.

09

Technology fails

Internet connections drop, platforms go down and messages arrive late. You should never depend on being able to open, manage or close a position at a particular moment.

10

Your account is yours

Your account is opened in your own name and your funds are held by the broker under their terms and their regulatory protections. Echelon never has access to it.

Check what protections apply to you before you deposit, including which entity of the broker holds your account.

11

Where this is available

These products are restricted or unavailable in some countries, including restricted territories. It is your responsibility to check that you may lawfully trade them where you live.

12

Take independent advice

If you are unsure whether trading is suitable for you, take advice from someone independent and appropriately qualified before you start.
